CASTLETON, Vermont – Elise Magro scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double, and come up with a game-high seven steals to lead the Castleton University Spartans to a 64-47 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Glenbrook Gym.
Magro was one of three Spartans in double figures scoring. Liz Bailey added 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kelly Vuz tossed in 14 points and had four assists, and three steals.

Amy Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble) led all scorers with a career-best 28 points. Fleming was 10-for-19 from the field and 5-for-9 from three-point range to lead the Huskies. She added six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Freshman
Vanessa Vaughan (Hantsport, Nova Scotia) added seven points, while sophomore
Maria Degifico (South Portland, Maine) had six points. Junior
Tamrah Gould (Manchester, N.H.) had five assists.

Meeting for the 11
th time today, the Huskies and Spartans entered Saturday's match up tied at 5-5. Castleton defeated USM 57-54 earlier this season.
How It Happened:
- Castleton grabbed a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and held off the Huskies the rest of the way. The Spartans were led by six points a piece from Magro and Vuz, while USM's Fleming scored all of her team points in the first with nine.
- Vaughan and Fleming scored seven and six points each in the second quarter as Southern Maine went into the halftime break down by 11, 37-26.
- Back-to-back buckets from junior Ashlee Aceto (South Portland, Maine) and Gould had USM down by three possessions, 39-30, early in the second half, but Castleton responded with six straight points to lead by 45-30 with 7:21 left in the third. Another set of back-to-back baskets – a layup from Degifico and a three from Fleming – pulled USM back to within three possessions, 47-39, with 4:03 left in the third but Castleton outscored USM 8-5 to close out the third up 56-43.
- In the fourth, both teams struggled to score for the first five minutes. Fleming broke the drought with a steal and a layup for a 56-45 Husky deficit at 4:14. However the Spartans outscored USM 8-4 in the fourth for the final.

- Southern Maine committed 24 turnovers and the Spartans had 14 steals. Castleton scored 17 of its 64 points off of Husky turnovers.
- Both teams were equal in rebounding with 27 each; however, Castleton had 14 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second-chance points.
