GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the UMass Boston Beacons 2-1 in a tight New England Hockey Conference game on Friday night. Both Southern Maine goals and the assists on the goals came from freshmen.
Caroline Thompson (Crapaud, PEI, Canada) and
Sydnee Chaisson (Stratford, PEI, Canada) scored goals while
Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, NB, Canada) assisted on both and
Saige MacLeod (Dryden, ON, Canada) recorded an assist as well.

How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
- Thompson scored her second goal of the season 17:28 into the first period on the power play to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
- McKim made 10 saves in the period while Bosch made 11.
- Early in the second period Chaisson scored off a MacLeod rebound for the first goal of her career.
- UMass Boston's Adriana Crepaldi scored a goal after collecting her own rebound on a breakaway to make the score 2-1.
- An intense third period featured nine total penalties and plenty of scoring chances on both sides but the Huskies were able to hold off the Beacons to sweep the season series. Southern Maine defeated UMass Boston 4-0 in November in Boston.
- In total there were 14 penalties between the two teams with the Huskies going 1-for-7 on the power play and the Beacons going 0-for-5.
- Southern Maine had 39 shots on goal compared to UMass Boston's 28. Â
