Big Second Half Propels Bates Over Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine –  The Bates College Bobcats scored six second half goals to break open a 1-0 game and defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 7-0 in a non-conference field hockey game Wednesday night at Hannaford Field.
 
Meeting for the 62nd time, Bates now leads the series 43-15-4.  Southern Maine last defeated Bates during the 2015 season, 4-3 on penalty strokes.

How It Happened:
  • After a scoreless first quarter, Bates took a 1-0 lead midway through the second as Paige Cote notched the Bobcats first goal of the 2022 season. Bates outshot USM 10-2 in the first half, but the Huskies' defense and starting goalkeeper senior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) stood first to keep it a 1-0 game through the half.
  • . Bates applied pressure early in the third and scored three goals in the first six minutes of the second half to balloon its lead to 4-0.  Kami Lambert, Ella Blum and Anna Lindeis each scored in the 31st, 33rd and 36th minutes respectively. 
  • Cote tallied her second goal of the game before the third quarter ended for a 5-0 Bates advantage, before Maria Fermia and Blum each scored in the fourth for the 7-0 final.
