MANSFIELD, Conn. – three different players scored as the University of Southern Maine Huskies opened up their 2022 Little East Conference schedule with a 3-1 win on the road against Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors Saturday afternoon at Rick McCarthy Field.
Facing each other for the 25
th time in series history, Southern Maine now leads Eastern Connecticut 20-5. USM fell to Eastern Connecticut 3-2 in double overtime in 2021, and defeated the Warriors 2-1 in double overtime in 2021.

How It Happened:
- Sophomore Ginny Twitchell (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) started the scoring for the Huskies with the first goal of the game in the eighth minute for a 1-0 USM lead. the goal marks Twitchell's second of the season.
- Eastern Connecticut tied the game up in the second period with a 24th minute goal from Emma Sanson following an assist from Kaylee Drobish. The score remained tied at 1-1 at the half.
- Southern Maine reclaimed the lead just five minutes into the second half when sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) knocked in her third goal of the season off of an assist from Hannah Banks.
- The Huskies added an insurance goal late in the fourth when junior Chloe Arsenault (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Regional) made it 3-1 in the 58th minute for the final.
