Huskies Run Over Manhattanville 7-1

GORHAM, Maine –  Sophomore Adelle Surette (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) had a goal and two assists and sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) added two goals as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Manhattanville College Valiants to earn their first win of the 2022 season 7-1 at Hannaford Field in a non-conference field hockey game Sunday morning.
 
Facing the Valiants for the eighth time in program history, Southern Maine leads the series 6-2 and has defeated Manhattanville in its last two meetings. USM won over the Valiants in 2019 by the score of 2-1

How It Happened:
  • Sophomore Ginny Twitchell (turner, Maine/Leavitt) put the Huskies up early notching her first goal of the season and her USM career in the fourth minute.  USM led 2-0 before the end of the first as sophomore Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) scored off of a Surette assist in the 13th minute.
  • Senior captain Samantha Ellis (New Vineyard, Maine/Mt. Blue) scored the first of two second half goals for the Huskies on a diving effort completing a lead pass from junior Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine.).  Surrette made it 4-0 before the half, scoring on a reverse hit in the circle in the 22nd minute.
  • Drinkwater scored both of her goals in the third in quick succession scoring off of a rebound in the 35th minutes and then completing a strong through ball from freshman Lily Koslosky (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) to set up a one-vs.-one against the keeper in the 36th.
  • Manhattanville broke up the shut out in the 56th on a goal from sophomore Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay) following a centering pass senior Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh).
  • USM notched its final goal in the 59th minute as sophomore Emma Samson (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) redirected a ball into the cage off of a feed from Surette.
