GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored twice as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Bridgewater State University Bears 5-1 in the Little Eat Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
Facing each other for the 45
th time in series history, Southern Maine now leads the series over the Bears 30-13-2. The Huskies have won the last four straight over Bridgewater State.

How It Happened:
- Sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) blasted in a goal from the top of the circle in the eighth minute off of an assist from junior Mary Keef (Westbrook, Maine) to start off the scoring for the Huskies. Drinkwater's goal is her team-leading sixth of the season.
- The Huskies took a 2-0 lead into the break, when junior Hanna Banks (Belfast, Maine/Belfast Area) collected her own rebound and scored her second goal of the season in the 23rd minute.
- Carson scored her first goal of the game and her second of the season in the 35th minute to put USM up 3-0 over the Bears redirecting a pass from Drinkwater.
- Minutes later, sophomore Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) scored on a backhand attempt in the 40th minute for a 4-0 USM lead. Carson closed out the scoring in the 42nd finishing an assist from junior Chloe Arsenault (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region).
- Bridgewater State's Zoe Bergeron broke up the shut out in the 48th minute with her second goal of the season. Sophia Morse centered a ball across the goal to a wide-open Bergeron who slotted the ball to the near post.

- Leading the Huskies with six goals and two assists for 14 points so far in 2022, Drinkwater has 17 goals and seven assists in her career (including six game-winning goals) for 41 points. Her 41 points are presently tied for 25th all-time with Ariel Kaplan (2010-2013) and current Husky head coach Bonny Brown Denico (1987-1990).
