GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine volleyball team saw their comeback attempt fall short as they were defeated 3-1 by Bates College in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening.

How It Happened:
- Bates controlled the first set from start-to-finish and won 25-10 to go up 1-0.
- The Huskies came to life in the second set and played a much more competitive set that featured eight ties and two lead changes but the Bobcats pulled out a 25-21 win to extend their lead to two sets to none.
- Southern Maine fought back and kept hope alive by winning the third set 25-16 to force a fourth set.
- The Bobcats pulled away in the fourth set and went on to win the set 25-18 to close out the non-conference contest with a 3-1 win.

- Junior co-captain Meg Perry (Gorham, Maine) led the Huskies with nine kills while freshman Drew Johnson (Pismo Beach, Cali. /Brewer) had seven.
- Perry's fellow captain, senior Sophie Lindsay (Sierra Madre, Cail./Pasadena) was the team's leader in assists (19) and digs (12).
- Emma Eide led the Bobcats in assists with 29 and digs with 20.
- Alyssa Lowther had 10 kills for Bates.
