GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore
Abigail Chartier (Lewiston, Maine) had a goal and an assist as five different players scored in a 5-0 win for the University of Southern Maine Huskies over the Western Connecticut State University Wolves in Little East Conference field hockey action Saturday morning at Hannaford Field.
With the win, Southern Maine is now 2-0 in the Little East Conference, and have outscored their conference opponents 8-1. Meeting for the 15
th time in series history, Southern Maine now leads WestConn 12-4.

How It Happened:
- Junior Chloe Arsenault (Boothbay, Maine) opened the scoring for the Huskies with a long-range shot in the 11th minute. Arsenault's second goal of the season stood through the half and until late in the third period.
- Still holding onto a 1-0 lead despite outshooting WestConn 13-0 in the half, and 18-0 through three quarters, it wasn't until the 44th minute when Southern Maine doubled its lead to 2-0 on another power shot this time from sophomore Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle). Drinkwater's goal is her fourth of the season.
- Southern Maine scored three goals in the fourth. Junior Hannah Banks (Belfast, Maine) scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute with an outstanding individual effort, carrying the ball down the right side of the field before turning the corner on her defender and hitting a tough shot to the far post for the 3-0 USM lead. Chartier made it 4-0 one minute later converting an assist from junior Mary Keef (Westbrook, Maine).
- Chartier helped the Huskies to their fifth goal of the game feeding freshman Gabby Maines (Waterville, Maine) in the 60th minute. Maines' goal is the first of her collegiate career.

- USM freshman Eleanor Folsom (Winthrop, Maine) earned her first win in goal for the Huskies. .
- Southern Maine did not yield a shot to WestConn, and allowed just one penalty corner late. USM had 20 penalty corners in the game.

The Huskies are on the road for its next two games and travel to Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Tuesday (7:00 pm) and then to Husson University on Thursday (7:00 pm) for a pair of non-conference games.
