SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of Southern Maine women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses on Saturday in a tri-match hosted by Western New England University. The Huskies were first defeated by Emerson College 3-0 and then fell to the hosts 3-0.

Game 1
Score: Lions 3, Huskies 0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-22)

History: This was the first meeting between the two programs.

How It Happened:
- The undefeated Lions recorded a hitting percentage of .423 on their way to a 25-14 victory in the first set.
- The Huskies' play improved in the second set but Emerson was still able to keep them a few points behind throughout the set and never trailed to take set number two by a score of 25-19.
- The third set was a tough battle that saw five lead changes and the score tied nine times. Emerson eventually rallied and broke a 19-19 tie with five straight points to get within a point of sweeping the match. The Huskies fought until the end and thanks to a pair of kills from Brianna Delloiacono (Moodus, Conn.) and an ace by freshman Savannah Hunter (Saco, Maine,/Thornton Academy) closed the gap to 24-22 before the Lions put the comeback attempt to rest.

- Delloiacono led all players with nine kills while sophomore Isabella Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) recorded seven.
- Emerson's Amelia Combs logged eight kills while teammate Parker Cummings matched Smith's total with seven.
- USM co-captain Meg Perry (Gorham, Maine) recorded five aces.
- Hunter and Sierra Castonguay (Nottingham, N.H./Dover) each recorded a game-high nine digs. Hunter also led both sides with 16 assists.

How It Happened:
- The Golden Bears maintained the lead throughout almost the entirety of the first set and recorded 15 kills compared to the Huskies' seven to take set one 25-19.
- The Huskies kept the second set close early on before Western New England pulled away late on their way to a 25-16 win to go up 2-0.
- Despite Southern Maine getting within one point late the Golden Bears never trailed in the third set and closed out the match with another 25-19 win to take the game 3-0.
Inside The Boxscore
- Sophomore Reese Bourgeois (Agawam, Mass.) led the Huskies with five kills, a new career high.
- Delloiacono (14) and Castonguay (13) each reached double figures in digs.
- Sarah Scott and Yemayma Molina led the Western New England attack with 13 and 12 kills respectively.
- Scott also tallied 18 digs good for second on the Golden Bears behind leader Becca Mayer with 21
