BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team swept the doubles points and won two singles matches as they defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Little East Conference tournament.
The team of Jeff Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Colin Lamusta (Lynnfield, Mass.) handled Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/College Antoine Girourard) and Zac Howe (Arundel, ME/Thornton Academy) 8-1 at first doubles. Paired at second doubles, Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, ME/Hermon) and Ryan Geary (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) fell to Charles Fiske (Taunton, Mass.) and Sean Nutter (Mattapoisett, Mass.) 8-2, while
Devin Witte (Ridgeville Corners, OH/ Archbold) and
Antoine Gignac (Quebec City, QC/St. Lawrence) also dropped their match at third doubles 8-2 to Kendan Ziegler (Hadley, NY) and Darius Desnoes (Ithaca, NY).Â
In singles play, Ziegler and Robert Dwyer (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) took down Rudnicki and Jaryd Traverso-Penn (Sanford, ME/Sanford) at third and sixth singles 6-0, 6-0 to bring their team total to five points, enough for the win.
