Huskies Drop Conference Opener at Keene State

KEENE, N.H. – Rex Maccarini (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored five goals to lead 13 Owls in scoring as the Keene State College Owls took down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 28-11 on Saturday afternoon in Keene. Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) led six Huskies in scoring with four goals. 

When and Where: Saturday, April 9 – Keene State College – Owl Stadium Complex

History: This was the 22nd matchup between the two teams. The Owls now lead the series 21-1.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-Keene State jumped out to an early lead as seven different Owls scored in the first quarter alone. Omar Contreras (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored the Huskies lone goal of the quarter to bring the score to 8-1.

-The Owls did not let up in the second quarter as they tacked on nine more goals. Southern Maine was able to get a couple back when Tuckner Nussinow (Winthrop, Maine/Kent Hills School) and Schuyler Wetmore (Cumberland Center, Maine/Greely) scored back-to-back goals. Keene State led 17-3.

-Southern Maine's offense got going a bit more in the second half as Aidan Mitchell (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick), Aman Zusner (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic), Nussinow, and James all got on the board. 

-The Owls out-shot the Huskies 62-31 and won 31-of-41 faceoffs. 

-Robby Pini (Natick, Mass./Natick) led the Huskies on defense with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. He now has 46 ground balls on the season.
