HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE: USM 7, PSU 2
  • Down 2-0 after the second inning, Southern Maine rallied for two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI singles from senior Kaitlyn Nelson (Guildhall, Vermont/White Mountains Regional) and Leidemann-Smith.
  • The Huskies went ahead of PSU in the fifth on an unearned run. USM took advantage of a pair of fielding errors from the Panthers, and Nelson, who reached on a one-out bunt single came around to score the go-ahead run for a 3-2 USM advantage.
  • PSU threatened to take back the lead in the top of the sixth.  Back to back singles from Rachyl Parslow and Madison Harrison started the inning and the Panthers loaded the bases with a one-out single from Niah Colby.  With one-out and the bases full, Snyder entered the game in relief of Merrill (the game one starter) and was able to end the threat with a strikeout and a infield line out.
  • The Huskies gave themselves some breathing room in the home half of the sixth, combining for four runs on five hits.  Sophomore Makena Mulcahy (Auburn, Mass.) had an RBI double in the inning, while Snyder drove in a run with an RBI ground out. Leidemann-Smith notched her second RBI of the game with a single, while Nelson scored an unearned run on a PSU defensive miscue.
  • Merrill earned her 11th win of the season going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks, while striking out five.  Snyder earned her second save of the season, pitching the final 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO: USM 10 PSU 2 (5 inn)
  • Up 2-1 after three and a half innings on RBI singles from Leidemann-Smith and Nelson in the first and second innings respectively, Southern Maine exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take control of the game at 7-1.
  • Leidemann-Smith provided a bulk of the Huskies' offense in the fourth with a bases-clearing double, while junior Rona Scott (Beverly, Mass.) added an RBI single, and Mulcahy scored on a fielder's choice.
  • An RBI double from PSU's Parslow cut the lead to 7-2 in the top of the fifth, but USM responded with three more runs in the home half of the inning to invoke the eight-run rule for the 10-2 final.
  • Sophomore Madison Day (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) started the three-run fifth with an RBI single, while Leidemann-Smith drove in her fifth run of the game with an RBI ground out.  Merrill ended the game with a single scoring Day for the game.
  • Nelson was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Huskies in game two, while Leidemann-Smith finished 3-for-4 with five RBI.
  • Snyder picked up her eighth win holding PSU to two runs in five innings on four hits and five walks while pitching in difficult weather conditions.
