Wolves Hand Huskies 8-1 Loss

DANBURY, Conn. -- The Western Connecticut State University Wolves men's tennis team swept the doubles and all but one of the singles points as they defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 8-1on Saturday afternoon in Danbury.

Both the first doubles team of Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/Collège Antoine Girourard) and Zach Desmarais (St. Cyrille, QC/École Secondaire L'Odyssée) and the third doubles team of Ethan Rudnicki (Levant, ME/Hermon) and Jaryd Traverso-Penn (Sanford, ME/Sanford) battled in very competitive matches. After a lengthy match, Bartuccio-Pereira and Desmarais lost 8-6 to Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) and Jay Kilcourse (New Fairfield, Conn.). Rudnicki and Traverso-Penn fell 8-6 to Jerry Narcisse (Norwalk, Conn.) and Nick Peschier (Bridgeport, Conn.). At second doubles Zac Howe (Arundel, ME/Thornton Academy) and Devin Witte (Ridgeville Corners, OH/Archbold) fell 8-2 to Sebatian Frisch (Redding, Conn.) and Mitchell Kindred (New Fairfield, Conn.).

Witte picked up the Huskies lone win of the day at fifth singles, posting a convincing 6-0, 6-4 victory over Peschier. At first singles, Bartuccio-Pereira lost 6-2, 6-0 to Tenesaca, while at second doubles, Desmarais fell 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. Howe dropped his match at third singles 6-2, 6-2, Rudnicki lost at fourth singles 6-2, 6-0, and Traverso-Penn fell 6-1, 6-2 at sixth singles.
 
The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, April 27 as they travel to UMass-Boston for a match at noon.
