HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One – UMB 13, USM 3 (8 inn)
- Down 2-0 to the Huskies after an RBI single from junior Arlo Pike (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and an RBI fielder's choice from Jonathan Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) in the top of the third, UMass Boston countered with four runs in the home half of the inning to lead 4-3 and continued to add runs for the 13-3 final. Luke Leavitt had a two-run single in the third to highlight the Beacons.
- USM senior Jason Komulainen (Gorham, Maine) brought the Huskies to within a run with an RBI single to right field in the fifth, making it a 4-3 game, but the Beacons countered with three runs in the home half of the inning for a commanding 7-3 lead. Craig Corliss had an RBI double to start the fifth for the Beacons and was followed by RBI singles from Gianna Zarrilli, Jr., and Chris Ducko.
- UMB led 10-3 after the sixth as the Beacons tacked on three more runs, led by a two-run triple to the gap in right for Aidan Blake. The Beacons made it 13-3 in the bottom of the eighth with another three-run inning on an RBI single from Blake, an RBI double from Corliss and an RBI double from Zarrilli, Jr.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two – USM 5, UMB 4
- Sinclair earned his third consecutive win allowing three earned runs on six hits and two walks in six strong innings. He struck out six. Seymour pitched the final three innings to earn his first save of 2022, allowing one earned run on three hits. He did not yield a walk and struck out one.
- Southern Maine scored first in the top of the third. Seymour stroked a two-out single and scored after a single from Komulainen was misplayed by the UMB infield.
- The Huskies added three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. With one out, senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) singled up the middle and moved to third on a double from freshman Zach Mooers (Winchester, N.H./Keene). Sophomore Janek Luksza (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) drove in the first run with a double, before junior Tom Vesosky (Colchester, N.H.) made it 4-0 with a two-run single through the right side.
- Corllis snagged back a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth doubling down the left field line for two RBI.
- Sinclair worked his way out of a jam in the bottom of the fifth to keep it 4-2. After allowing back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, Sinclair came back to get three outs.
- Seymour came through with a two-out solo home run in the top of the sixth for a 5-2 Husky lead. Seymour's homer marked his third of the season. USM's three-run lead was short lived, however, as Bostyn Burris had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-3 game.
- Seymour replaced Sinclair on the hill in the seventh, and overcame an error on the lead off batter to keep the game at 5-3. In the eighth, each team had a non-productive single, sending the game to the ninth with USM clinging to a 5-3 lead.
- Wilson led off the inning with a double, but UMB reliever Josh Eastman got three consecutive outs to eliminate the three. Coming out for his third inning of relief, Seymour had runners on first and third with one out following singles from Nico Kydes and Ducko and a balk. Seymour surrendered a run on an RBI sacrifice fly to Steve Brookwell, before sealing the win and the save with a fielder's choice ground out.
- Vesosky finished the game with two RBI, while Seymour and Komulainen each had three hits. Seymour was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in addition to the save. Wilson, Mooers and Luksza each had two hits. Both of Mooers hits were doubles.
