Darasz and Shanks Reach Major Milestones in win over Castleton

GORHAM, Maine. – Jennifer Darasz (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) scored her 100th career goal and Rachel Shanks (Naples, Maine/Lake Region) notched her 100th career point as the University of Southern Maine Huskies took down the Castleton University Spartans 20-1 in Gorham on Saturday. Darasz scored 66 goals at Hartwick College and so far has scored 34 during her time at USM. Shanks now has 110 points on 82 goals and 28 assists.

History: This was the 19th matchup between the two teams. The Huskies now lead the series 13-6.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-The game started off on an exciting note as less than four minutes into play Kate Colvin (Winchester, Mass./Governor's Academy) scored to put the Huskies on the board. Shanks assisted on Colvin's goal, earning her 100th career point. 

-The Huskies scored 20 unanswered goals before Castleton was able to answer back. Both Shanks and Darasz had seven goals on the day, Colvin had four, and Kiaya Gatchell (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Emily Baker (Limerick, Maine/Massabesic) had one goal each. 

-Shanks and Darasz also led the team in assists with four and three, respectively. Baker, Evelyn Hinkley (West Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner Area), and Jillian Nichols (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) each tallied an assist as well.

-Defensively, Colvin collected six ground balls and caused three turnovers, while Maeve McGarrity (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers. 

-Castleton's lone goal came with a minute left in the game from the stick of Kimberly McCarthy (West Sayville, N.Y.).

-With 11 total points in the game, Shanks ties the program record for points in a game set by Aliza Jordan in 2019. Both Darasz and Shanks ended the game with a 100 shot percentage, each scoring their seven goals on seven shots.

-Racine and Laslavic continued their dominant goaltending this afternoon. The pair has a combined .557 save percentage and a 7.09 goals against average.
