Men's Lacrosse falls to West Conn on the Road

DANBURY, Conn. – Julian Duque (Mastic, NY) scored eight goals to lead seven Western Connecticut athletes in scoring as Western Connecticut State took down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 19-4 on Saturday afternoon in Danbury. With the win, Western Connecticut State moves to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the Little East Conference, while Southern Maine falls to 2-6, and 0-4 in the LEC with the loss.

History: This was the 19th matchup between the two teams. Western Connecticut State now leads the series 13-6.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-The Huskies got out to an early lead as Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) scored his 31st goal of the season just under three minutes into play. 

-The rest of the first quarter went in Western Connecticut's favor as they scored eight straight to close out the quarter.

-The Huskies cut their deficit to just six as early in the second quarter, Omar Contreras (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Jacob Lang (West Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored to bring the score to 9-3. 
-Aman Zusner (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic) scored the Huskies' final goal of the game early in the fourth quarter.

-Western Connecticut State's Trey Aronow (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored five goals and added an assist, while teammate Benjamin Hawthorne (Maronville, N.Y.) had five assists on the day.

-Robby Pini (Natick, Mass./Natick) picked up six ground balls and caused two turnovers, while Xpistos Sourgiadakis (Littleton, N.H./St. Johnsbury Academy) won 8-of-14 face-offs.

-Western Connecticut State out-shot Southern Maine 52-28 and picked up 41 ground balls to the Huskies' 22.
