Nor’easters Down Huskies 14-7

GORHAM, Maine – Andrew Lawrence (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely) led four Nor'easters to multiple-goal performances as the University of New England Nor'easters took down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 14-7 on Wednesday night in Gorham. 

When and Where: Wednesday, March 9 – University of Southern Maine  – Hannaford Field

Score: University of New England 14, Southern Maine 7

History: This was the 20th matchup between the two teams. The Huskies now lead the series 17-3.

Southern Maine: Nathan Plourde (Otisfield, ME / Oxford Hills): 14 saves, .500 save percentage; University of New England: Matt Deyette (North Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia): eight saves, .533 save percentage

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-The Huskies and Nor'easters traded goals back and forth to open up a five-goal first period. Jordan White (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes) and Sam McGregor (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) scored for UNE, while Schuyler Wetmore (Cumberland Center, Maine/Greely) and Nick James (Portland, Maine/Deering) got on the board for the Huskies.

-Wetmore added a goal and James scored two in a row to give the Huskies a 5-4 lead at one point in the second quarter, but four-goal period for the Nor'easters put them back on top 7-5 going into halftime. James and Wetmore finished the game with three and two goals a-piece.

-The Nor'easters defense held the Huskies to just two goals in the second half of the game and kept the Huskies 11-for-22 on clear attempts on the night.

-A string of four fourth quarter goals sealed the deal for the Nor'easters who out-shot the Huskies 45-32 and went 15-for-29 on faceoffs.

Up Next: The Huskies are set to travel to Norwich University on Sunday, March 13 for a non-conference tilt with the Cadets.
