GAME 1 - HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Tied at 5-5 headed to the top of the sixth, Southern Maine scored twice to take the lead.  Sophomore Janek Luksa (South Paris, Maine/Oxford Hills) led off the inning and reached safely after being hit by a pitch, and moved into scoring position stealing second.  Sophomore Cam Seymour (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) made it first and second after being issued an intentional walk.  With two outs, Komulainen drove in both of the Huskies runs in the inning with a double to center field for a 7-5 Husky lead.
  • Husky starter Joshua Joy (Smithfield, Maine/Messalonskee) worked around an one-out single in the bottom of the sixth to keep Southern Maine ahead.  Joy left the game after six, earning the win for USM allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks. Earning his first win of the season, Joy struckout six.
  • After a quiet top of seven from USM, Husky sophomore Bryce Afthim (Windham, Maine) came on in relief of Joy and retired UMD in order on three consecutive groundouts.
  • Following a scoreless eighth, USM added an insurance run in the ninth. Seymour led off the inning being hit by a pitch, and Komulainen moved him up a base with a single through the left side.  After back-to-back outs, LeBlond came through with a clutch RBI single to right field to score Seymour making it 8-5.
  • Afthim stayed steady in the ninth earning the first out via strikeout before dealing with one-out single, retiing the next two batters on a fly out and a ground out for his first save of the season.
  • Seymour was 1-for-2 at the plate for USM with three runs scored, while senior Brogan Searle-Belanger (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was 2-for-5.  LeBlond's two-run home run in the top of the second was the first of his USM career.

GAME 2 - HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior DJ Perron (Swansea, Mass./Diman Regional) connected with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the fourth, and UMD junior pitcher Ryan Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) held Southern Maine to three hits and a walk, while striking out 12 to pace the Corsairs to the win.
  • Afthim the game two starter for USM pitched well suffering his first loss of the season.  Afthim allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
  • With the game locked up at 0-0 through 3 ½ innings, UMD senior Chris Stafford (Somerset, Mass/Somerset Berkley) led off the inning with a double to left.  After a fly out to left, Perron drove in the games lone run of the game on the first of his two singles in the contest.
  • Qualey kept USM off the board retiring the next 10 Husky batters he faced in order, including seven by strikeout.  USM freshman Zach Mooers (Winchester, N.H./Keene) singled in the top of the eight, but it was the last hit of the game for the Huskies.
  • In addition to Mooers, Luksa and Searle-Belanger were the only two Huskies to collect a hit off of Qualey.
