Aidan Whitis each posted 3-0 record on the day to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies' wrestling team in a set of dual meets hosted by trinity College Saturday afternoon.
Southern Maine defeated Plymouth State 52-0 and took a 31-16 win over the hosts trinity college. Southern Maine dropped a close match to Western New England 23-15. The Huskies are now 9-4 in dual meets this season.
On the Mat:
- Wrestling at 149, Frost scored USM's first points of the match with a 9-3 win over Cameron Hines. Against Plymouth State, Frost earned the first of his two wins by fall, putting Tyler O'Mara to the mat in 4:34. Frost completed his 3-0 day with a 2:20 pin over Trinity's Aidan Hebert.
- Competing at 174, Vernaza had a win by decision, technical fall and a major decision in his 3-0 day. Vernaza opened with a 12-10 decision over WNE's Christian Giaropoulos and then took a 15-0 technical fall over Plymouth State's Javi Gonzalez (5:25). In his final match of the day, Vernaza worked an 11-2 major decision win over Trinity's Adam Frost.
- Whitis strung together three wins with a 9-3 decision over WNE's Charles Maloy at 184, and 3:37 win by fall against trinity's Dylan Reynolds. Whitis won his bout against PSU by forfeit.
- At 285, Peavey continued his strong season with a pair of pins. Peavey downed WNE's Spencer Dickinson quickly in 1:46, and had a 3:59 win by fall over Trinity's John O'Brian. Peavey also had a win by forfeit against PSU.
Up Next:
Southern Maine travels to New England College for a dual meet on Friday (6:00 pm). The Huskies will then be at home on Saturday (1:00 pm) versus Norwich University.
