Boudreau, USM Coaching Staff win LEC Major Awards

GORHAM, Maine– Jaigan Boudreau (Dayton, Maine/Thornton Academy) was named Rookie Field Athlete of the Year and the Huskies' coaching staff, led by Rob Whitten, was named coaching staff of the year, when the Little East Conference released its post-season conference awards on Friday, February 25. Nine other USM athletes received all-conference honors, as did the 4x200m relay team and the 4x400m relay team.

At the LEC championship meet Boudreau was victorious in the shot put, throwing 12.24m. Her season best mark of 12.42m is fourth all-time in the Huskies' record books. Boudreau also finished in the top 10 in the weight throw at the meet. Dominant all season, Boudreau has picked up three weekly honors from the Little East Conference throughout the year. 

Five different Huskies were recognized with first team all-conference honors after winning events at the LEC championship meet. Olivia Jalbert (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) was named first team all-conference in the high jump and long jump, Phoebe Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine/York) in the pole vault, Boudreau in the shot put, Ella Boucher (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) in the triple jump, and Rosemary Train (Long Island, Maine/Cheverus) in the 600m run. Additionally, the 4x400m relay team of Train, Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine/Freeport), Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells), and Anna Reny (Gardiner, Maine/Cony) picked up first team all-conference honors.

Earning second place finishes at the LEC championship meet, five Huskies earned second team all-conference honors. Gould earned second team honors in the 200m dash, Reny in the 55m hurdles, Lucy Knowlton (Portland, Maine/Leavitt) in the mile and the 3000m run, Olivia Richmond (Jefferson, Maine/Lincoln Academy) in the high jump, and Sarah Fecteau (Gray, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) in the pole vault. The 4x200m relay team of Mackenzie Betty (Nashua, NH/Nashua), Mackenzie Banks (Belfast, Maine/Belfast), Maddie Fornasier (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and Sophia Poole (Oakland, Maine/Waterville) also earned second team honors. 

Finishing as the top rookie in their respective events, Boucher, Boudreau, Gould, Jalbert, and Slovenski were also named to the all-rookie team. 

Guiding the Huskies to a LEC record 21st conference championship, the coaching staff of Rob Whitten, Mike Drummey, Jim Giroux, Michael Roscoe, and Andrew Rose was named the coaching staff of the year. This is the sixth time in seven years that the Southern Maine staff has earned the honor.
