Men’s Hockey Celebrates Senior Day Against Babson

GORHAM, Maine. – Matt Wiesner (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) each scored twice as the Babson College Beavers took down the University of Southern Maine Huskies 6-2 in Gorham on Saturday. 

Prior to the game, the Huskies honored their eight seniors: Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, QC/College Antoine-Girouard), Oskar Bjurstrom (Stockholm, Sweden/Nacka Enskilda Gymnasium), Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas./Texas Jr. Brahmas), Brendan Dowler (New Preston, Conn./Shepaug Valley), Tyler Gardiner (Watertown, Mass./Watertown), Bobby Kinsey III (Leechburg, Pa./North Andover), Maverick Lynes (Sherwood Park, AB/Louis St. Laurent), and Adam Withers (Kenora, ON/Beaver Brae).

When and Where: Saturday, February 12, 2022 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena

Score: Babson 6, Southern Maine 2

History: This was the 44th meeting between the two programs. The Beavers now lead the series 34-9-1.

The Records: Southern Maine: 7-13-1, 5-10-1 NEHC; Babson: 16-5-2, 11-5-2

The Goaltenders: Kyle Penton (Waltham, Mass./Albany Academy): 39 saves, .867 save percentage; Brad Arvanitis (Holliston, Mass.): 20 saves, .909 save percentage.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-The Huskies and Beavers battled evenly until the 18th minute of play when Babson took advantage of a power play opportunity and Boutoussov scored his first goal of the game.

-Just 43 seconds into the second period, Dowler evened things up, taking a pass from Curtis Judd (Newton, Mass./Albany Academy) and finding the back of the net.

-The rest of the night went largely in Babson's favor as they scored four goals in the second period to open up a 5-1 lead. The Beavers' goals came from Wiesner, Max Torrez (Framingham, Mass.), Chris Rooney (Milton, Mass.) and another from Boutoussov. Torrez's goal was short-handed and Boutoussov's came on a power play.

-Wiesner scored his second of the night with just over three minutes left to play to give the Beavers a 6-1 advantage late in the game. Boutoussov fed the puck to Wiesner from behind the net, giving him a total of three points on the night.

-Bartuccio-Periera added a power play goal with 45 seconds to play to make the final score 6-2.

Up Next: The Huskies will host Caslteton in a New England Hockey Conference Tournament game on Wednesday, February 16th. The time of the game is to be announced.
