GORHAM, Maine – After a big second half push from the UMaine Presque Isle Owls, the University of Southern Maine Huskies were to secure the win, 72-70, thanks to junior
Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Florida), who hit the game-winning jumper with four seconds remaining in regulation.
Played at the Huskies' Hill Gymnasium, tonight's game marks the 14
th meeting between the two programs. USM now leads the series 12-2.

How It Happened:
- Down 27-23 with 5:40 to play after a layup from UMPI's Dany Harris, Southern Maine snagged the lead from the Owls using a 13-0 run that featured back-to-back threes from junior Simon Chadbourne (Westbrook, Maine/Portland, Maine) and four points from sophomore Clay Kuhn (Winter Park, Fla.). The Huskies led 41-32 at the half as Chadbourne canned a buzzer-beating three for the final points of the first.
- Southern Maine grew its lead to 18, 54-36, after a steal and a layup from freshman Tommy Whelan (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) at around the 15 minute mark, but the Owls clawed their way back into the game outsourcing the Huskies 25-6 over the next ten minutes to lead 61-60 with 5:13 to play. UMPI's Griffin Guerrette scored 10 of the Owls' 25 points in the run.
- Both teams went back-and-forth over the next few possessions. A layup from Owl KJ Minter and two free throws from Jean Gilbert Mendez made it 70-66 with 1:35 to play. USM's Kuhn made it a one-possession game with a driving layup with just over a minute to play, before the Huskies' Dixon tied it up with 41 seconds to go.
- UMPI turned the ball over on its next possession and the USM brought the ball up the length of the court with 17 seconds to play, setting the stage for Dixon's game-winner. UMPI had a half-court look at the basket for the win but it was off the mark.

- USM outrebounded UMPI 39-29. Chadbourne had a career-high with nine rebounds, while senior Cody Hawes (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) was close behind with eight rebounds.
- USM shot 47 percent (31- for-66) from the field in tonight's contest. Chadbourne led the Huskies with 20 points.
- Chadbourne led the Huskies with 20 points, including six three-pointers, on 7-for-12 shooting. Senior Jason Lombard (Anchorage, Alaska) had 12 points and five rebounds, freshman Tommy Whelan (Bronx, New York) ranked on the team second with 13 points, and junior Clay Kuhn (Winter Park Florida) added 10 points to round out four Huskies in double-digits.
Up Next:
Southern Maine returns to action at home and faces non-conference opponent Bates College on Tuesday (7:30 pm). The Huskies are then off until December 3 when they host Keene State in their Little East Conference opener on Saturday (3:00 pm).
