GORHAM, Maine – Junior
Clay Kuhn (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park) scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebound to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 73-64 win over the Bates College Bobcats in a non-conference men's basketball game Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.

Kuhn scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half as the Huskies overcame a 14-point deficit to pick up their first win over the Bobcats since a 78-72 win during the 2019 season. Southern Maine now leads the overall series 29-16. Bates defeated Southern Maine 92-76 in 2021.

How It Happened:
- Trailing by 14, 52-38, with 14:49 remaining in the second half after a layup from Bates' Stephen Ward, the Huskies fought their way back into the game with a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes to trail by a possession 54-52. Junior Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) ignited the run with a three. Freshman Mark Asare (Roswell, Ga./Centennial) also had a three in the run, while freshman Tommy Whelan (Bronx, N.Y./Fordham Prep) scored five points.
- Bates' Steph Baxter canned a three to give the Bobcats a 57-52 advantage with 7:09 to play, but Southern Maine quickly closed the gap and took the lead with a 14-0 run spearheaded by Dixon and Kuhn for a 66-57 lead with 55 seconds to play. Dixon scored six points in the run, including the game-tying bucket, while Kuhn had eight, including a go-head three.
- Jahmir Primer made one of two free throws during the Bobcats' next possession, but the Huskies closed it out on the line making 7-of-8 down the stretch to hold for the 73-64 win. Â Â

Inside The Stats:
- Kuhn was 5-for-13 from the field and 3-for-7 from three to lead three Huskies in double figures with 17 points. Asare scored a career-best 15 off of the bench, going 5-for-9 from the field, including a stellar 4-for-7 from three. Senior Cody Hawes (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) added 11 points, a team-high nine rebounds and had five assists. Dixon finished with nine points.
- Primer led all scorers with 20 points for the Bobcats on 7-for-11 shooting. He adeed eight rebounds and two assists. Ward led all rebounders with 13, including five offensive rebounds. Peter Psyhogeos had 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting off of the bench for Bates.Â
- Southern Maine scored 15 points off of 22 Bates turnovers. The Huskies turned the ball over just 11 time.Â
