Huskies Shine in 4-0 Win over Beacons

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass.) lit the lamp twice and recorded two assists to help lead the University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 win over UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon.
 
When and Where: Saturday, November 12, 2022 – Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.

History: The Huskies are now 12-21-2 against the Beacons.
 
The Records:  Southern Maine: 2-4-0 (2-2-0 NEHC); UMass Boston 3-2-0 (2-2-0 NEHC)
 
The Goaltenders:  Junior Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada): 2-4-0, 28 saves, shutout; Victoria Kennedy: 2-2-0, 30 saves, four goals allowed.
 
How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
  • The Huskies outshot the Beacons 8-6 in a scoreless first period.
  • McLeish scored her second goal of the season 7:48 into the second period with sophomore Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) assisting.
  • The next goal came just 21 seconds into the third period when sophomore Jess MacLean (Red Point, NS, Canada/Rankin School of the Narrows) collected a rebound from a McLeish shot and ripped a shot past Kennedy for her first goal of the season.
  • McLeish scored her second goal of the night just over two minutes later with Chagnon again being credited with the assist.
  • Senior Amanda Crowley (South Yarmouth, Mass./Tilton School) scored the final goal for the Huskies with Chagnon picking up her third assist of the night and McLeish recorded her second. The goal is Crowley's first of the season.
  • McKim made six saves in the first, a dozen in the second and 10 in the third while Kennedy made eight stops in the first followed by 10 in the second and 12 in the third.
  • The Beacons outdrew the Huskies on faceoffs 37-31. Freshman Olivia Stewart (Fredericton, NB, Canada/The Mount Academy) went 12-10 on faceoffs.
  • Katie Wilbert took six shots for the Beacons.
  • McKim's shutout is her first of the season and the seventh of her career putting her in sole possession of third-most in program history.
Up Next: The Huskies will return home for a NEHC game against Castleton University on Friday, November 18.
