GORHAM, Maine. – The University of Southern Maine women's tennis was defeated by Castleton University 9-0 in a Little East Conference match at Gorham High School on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Muriel Lattin (Litchfield, Maine) made her first singles debut and played well despite dropping the match 6-4, 6-0.
Sophomore
Chloe McVetty (Windham, Maine) and junior
Jordan Cote (Hope, Maine/Camden Hills) played at second and third singles for the first time this season. Cote lost 6-0,6-0 while McVetty won her first set 6-5 before falling 6-0 in the second. In the tiebreaking third set McVetty suffered a 10-4 loss.
Freshman
Madison Viveiros (Cranston, R.I./Cranston East) was bested 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles.
The Spartans swept the doubles matches with junior
Maggie Brock (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and Lattin falling 8-2 at first singles and McVetty and Cote losing 8-1 at second doubles. Castleton won by default at third singles.
The Huskies will face Western Connecticut State University tomorrow afternoon in another LEC match.
