BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team began the 2022-23 season on Friday night with a 2-1 non-conference loss to the University of New England Nor'easters.

How It Happened/Inside the Boxscore:
- After a scoreless first period the Nor'easters got on the board thanks to a goal by Keely Kasputis just under three minutes into the second period.
- McKenna Remillard doubled the UNE lead less than a minute later with a goal.
- Anna O'Neill and Courtney Himes assisted on Kasputis' goal while Meghan Hamilton assisted on Remillard's.
- Madison Chagnon (St. Albans, Vt./Rice Memorial) cut the lead in half with her first goal of the season about halfway through the second period.
- Freshman Sydnee Chaisson (Stratford, PEI, Canada/The Mount Academy) dished out the assist on Changnon's goal for the first point of her collegiate career.
- Chagnon and sophomore Jess MacLean (Red Point, NS, Canada/Rankin School of the Narrows) each took four shots for the Huskies.
- MacLean and Maddy Young (Westford, Vt.) each blocked two shots for Southern Maine.
- The Huskies killed three penalties in the contest.
