Bonilla Goal Lifts Huskies Over Maine Maritime 1-0

USM Extends Unbeaten Streak to Six Game (2-0-4)

GORHAM, Maine –  Junior Edwin Bonilla (Dracut, Mass.) scored the lone goal of the contest and the University of Southern Maine Huskies extended their unbeaten streak to six games (2-0-4) earning a 1-0 win over Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference men's soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

Meeting each other for the 18th time on the pitch, Southern Maine now leads the overall series 11-5-2.  MMA had won the previous two meetings over USM, including a 2-0 win in 2021.

How It Happened:
  • After receiving a well-played ball in from senior Zekariya Shaib (Portland, Maine), Bonilla took two touches inside the box to lose his defender before sending a low, driven ball to the far post on the left side of the field for the game-winning goal in the 21st minute.
  • Husky senior goalkeeper Hayes Estrella (Kennebunk, Maine) earned the win making four saves in the contest for his eighth shutout of the season.  Estrella made a pair of point-blank saves in the match, keeping the Mariners off the scoreboard and preserving the clean sheet.
