Chadbourne & Kuhn With Career-Best 19 Points Each

GORHAM, Maine  –  Sophomores Simon Chadbourne (Westbrook, Maine) and Clay Kuhn (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) each scored a career-high 19 points to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a thrilling 85-81 double overtime win over Western Connecticut State University Monday afternoon in Little East Conference men's basketball action.

Chadbourne and Kuhn led four Huskies in double-figures as USM won its second consecutive game in LEC play and third of its last four.

The Records:
Western Connecticut (10-9, 4-7 Little East)

Series History:  Tonight's game was the 60th meeting between the two school. The Huskies' win is just the 17th in program history against WestConn and the first since January 30, 2016 (75-69).  The win stops a nine-game losing streak to WestConn for Southern Maine.  WestConn leads the series 43-17.

How It Happened:
  •  Headed into the halftime break up 35-31 over the Huskies, WestConn looked to have seized control of the game scoring the first 11 points of the second half to lead USM 46-31 with 15:56 to play.  Robinson, Turner and junior Solomon Silas (Danbury, Conn./Faith Christain) each scored three points in the run.
  • Facing its largest deficit of the game less than four minutes into the second half, the Huskies responded outscoring WestConn 35-19 over the next 15 minutes to take a slim 66-65 lead with 1:04 remaining in regulation. Kuhn scored 11 of his 19 in the offensive outburst while Chadbourne poured in 10 points. Dixon scored the go-ahead basket, a three, to give USM its first lead since the 8:17 mark of the first half (17-16).
  • After Dixon's three, Robinson sank one of two free throws to tie up the game and both teams misfired on their final possessions to force overtime.
  • In the first overtime, both teams traded baskets to start, including layups from WestConn's Robinson and senior Wes Nelson (Queens, N.Y./HS for Construction) to give their team a 70-67 lead early.  However, Hawes hit a game-tying three and Dixon followed with a jumper and one of two free throws to push USM ahead 73-70 with 1:27 to play.  WestConn answered back, again, however, as Turner sank along three to knot the game up at 73-73 setting the game up for a second overtime.
  • Robinson and Privott each scored in the paint in the second overtime to give WestConn a 77-73 lead in the first 90 seconds, before USM scored seven unanswered points to lead 80-77 with 2:12 to go.  Chadbourne started the run with a three from the top of the arc and was followed by a short jumper from Kuhn and a offensive rebound and putback from Lombard.
  • Nelson converted a pair of free throws on the next WestConn possession to make it a one-point game, 80-79, but Chadbourne followed with another three – his sixth of the game – to make it 83-79 with 1:36 to play.
  • WestConn's Turner made it a one possession game, 83-81 with 24 seconds to go, but missed the free throw to tie the game.  WestConn snagged the offensive board off of the missed free throw but was unable to make its second look at the basket and USM's Dixon closed it out on the line for the 85-81 final.
