Huskies Blank Panthers 4-0

GORHAM, Maine – Senior Shannon Douglas (Telford, England/Ontario Hockey Academy) had a goal and an assist and sophomore Haley McKim (Moncton, NB/The Mount Academy) earned her fifth shutout of the season as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Plymouth State Panthers 4-0 on Sunday in Gorham. 

When and Where: Sunday, January 30, 2022 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena

History: This was the 29th meeting between the two programs. The Huskies now lead the series 19-8-1 UPDATE

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-Chagnon broke the 0-0 tie in the first period when she took a pass from Rylie Binette (Milan, N.H.) behind the net, and tapped the puck past Julian. 

-Midway through the first period, Douglas extended the Huskies' lead to 2-0, scoring her third goal of the season and tenth of her career.

-Not two minutes later, Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) found the back of the net for her second of the season and put the Huskies up 3-0.

-After a scoreless second period, defenseman Jess MacLean (Red Point, NS/Rankin School of the Narrows) took on the Plymouth State defense on a breakaway and gave the Huskies a 4-0 lead.

-Plymouth State out-shot the Huskies 21-14 (13-7 on goal) in the third period, but McKim made 13 of her 33 saves to maintain the Huskies' lead.

Up Next: The Huskies will travel to New England College on February 4 for a New England Hockey Conference contest scheduled for 6pm.
