How It Happened:
  • Finishing the first half knotted up at 32, the Huskies found themselves down by double-figures, 62-51, with just under 10 minutes in regulation.
  • In a back and forth start to the second half, PSU held a slim 40-39 edge following a layup from USM's Christopher at the 17:42 mark. However, the Panthers countered outscoring USM 9-2 over the next 2:20 to lead 49-41. Four different Panther scored in the run capped by a three from Rivera.
  • Back-to-back jumpers from USM's Juneau Anicette (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) and freshman Michael Connolly (Westbrook, Maine) made it a two-possession game, 51-47, but PSU rattled off an 11-4 run to lead 62-51 with 9:21 to play. PSU was 3-for-4 from the field during that stretch and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.  Yansel Reyes scored five points, while Devin Cooper added four.
  • Down double-digits, Chadbourne kicked off a 15-2 run giving the Huskies their first lead, 66-64, since the 4:20 mark of the opening half. Four different Huskies scored in the game-changing run, including five points each from Ward and Dixon. Dixon's short jumper in the paint gave USM the lead for good at the 2:50 mark.
  • During the Huskies 15-2 run, PSU was ice cold from the field going 1-for-8 while turning the ball over four times. USM had three steals in that stretch, including one from Hawes, who finished the game with six steals, and scored the game tying basket.
  •  PSU's Bosse tied the game up at 66 hitting two free throws with 1:37 to play, but Chadbourne answered with a huge three, and Christopher converted a layup on a slick assist from Dixon for a quick five-point swing and a 71-66 lead with 27 second to go.
  • PSU's Bosse had an offensive rebound and a put-back in the closing seconds, making it 71-68; however USM's Dixon closed the game on the line making two free throws for the 73-68 final.
