PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College guard Shion Darby scored a team-high 24 points to lead the Anchormen to a 83-73 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night.

How It Happened:
- Rhode Island College used a big 12-0 run midway through the opening half to open up a 26-12 lead and took a solid 42-29 lead into the halftime break. Darby (12), Jacobs (10) and Riley (11) were in double-figures at the half to pace the Anchormen.
- Down by 15, 70-55, with 6:07 to play, Southern Maine stormed back to make it a two-possession game, 72-67, with 1:20 to play with a 12-2 run. Christopher scored eight points in the run that was capped by a fastbreak layup from freshman Juneau Anicette (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips). Anicette finished with nine points off of the bench.
- RIC responded on its next possession with a three from Jacobs and USM's Christopher made it a six-point game (75-69) with 48 seconds left; however the Anchormen went 8-or-8 from the free throw line to seal the win. Damian Tucker scored six of RIC's eight free throws.
Inside the Stats:
- Christopher's 24 points are a season and career-high for the junior forward. His 12 rebounds mark the fourth time this season he has reached double-digits in that category, and marks his third career double-double and second of 2021-22.
- Rhode Island College shot 44.4 (28-for-63) from the field, including a 53.13 percent effort (17-for-32) in the first half.
- The Huskies shot just 29.03 percent (9-for-31) from the field in the opening half but shot 48.65 (18-for-37) in the second half.
