Slovenski and 4x400m Relay Earn LEC Weekly Honors

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine women's indoor track and field team picked up two weekly awards when the Little East Conference announced its awards for the week ending January 16.

Freshman Phoebe Slovenski (Cape Neddick, Maine/York) picked up Rookie Field Athlete of the Week honors, while the Huskies' 4x400 meter relay of Heaven Conley (Ogunquit, Maine/Wells), Maddie Fornasier (South Burlington, VT/South Burlington),  Cassandra Kane (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat), and Rosemary Train (Long Island, Maine/Cheverus) picked up Relay of the Week recognition.

Competing at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday, the Huskies' 4x400 relay of Conley, Fornasier, Kane, and Train finished third in 4:26.82, just two seconds behind MIT. 4:26.82 is the fastest in the LEC this season, and ranks 15th in New England.

Competing in the pole vault at the tri-meet, Slovenski took fourth place amongst a competitive field. Slovenski cleared 2.95m on her second attempt, setting a new collegiate personal best. 2.95m is the top mark in the LEC this season and ranks her 19th in New England.

The Huskies are back in action this weekend as they are slated to host Husson, Plymouth State, Suffolk, and Thomas in a meet scheduled for Sunday, January 23 at noon.
