Early Goal Leads Huskies Past Herons 1-0

GORHAM, Maine – Amanda Crowley's (South Yarmouth, Mass./Tilton School) goal in the first period and a 37-save shutout from Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada/The Mount Academy) helped the Huskies past conference rival William Smith College Herons in a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon in Gorham.

When and Where: Saturday, January 15, 2022 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena

History: This was the second meeting between the two programs. The Huskies now lead the series 2-0.

The Goaltenders: McKim: 37 saves, 1.000 save percentage, 7-6 record; Amanda Aalto (West Barnstable, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon): 25 saves, .926 save percentage, 2-5-1 record

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-Crowley's first goal of the season came midway through the first period, giving the Huskies an early lead. Georgie Snow (Yarmouth Port, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth) assisted the goal, her third of the season.

-Play remained even as the Huskies ended the second period with 18 total shots on goal to the Herons' 19. 

-The Herons threatened late and out shot the Huskies 28-12 (18-7 on goal) in the third period, forcing McKim to make a number of key saves.

-William Smith had one last opportunity late when they pulled their goalie, but the Huskies' defense stood tall to secure the victory.

-Only two penalties were called during the entire game, resulting in minimal power play opportunities for either team. 

-Southern Maine had a narrow edge on face offs, winning 31-of-60.
