Huskies fall to #3 Elmira 4-0

GORHAM, Maine – Eliza Beaudin (Lewiston, Maine/Hebron Academy) scored twice to lead the nationally ranked Elmira College Soaring Eagles over the University of Southern Maine Huskies 4-0 on Friday in Gorham.

When and Where: Friday, January 14, 2022 – University of Southern Maine – USM Ice Arena

History: This was the second meeting between the two programs. The Soaring Eagles now lead the series 2-0.

The Records: Southern Maine: 7-7-0, 5-4-0 NEHC; Elmira: 12-2-1

The Goaltenders: Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada/The Mount Academy): 6-7-0 record, 46 saves, .920 save percentage; Leonie Kuehberger (Hingham, Mass./Thayer Academy), 9-2-1 record, 7 saves, 1.00 save percentage. 

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 
-After a back and forth 12 minutes of play, Claire Elfring (Lainsburg, Mich./Meijer AAA) snuck a shot past McKim to give the Soaring Eagles a 1-0 lead.

-McKim and the Huskies defense held strong for the remainder of the first period and until midway through the second period when Claire Meeder (Woodbury, Minn./North St. Paul) extended Elmira's lead to 2-0. 

-McKim continued her exceptional play in the third period, stopping a penalty shot opportunity to keep the Huskies within two goals.

-Beaudin sealed the deal for the Soaring Eagles, scoring twice in the final seven minutes of play.  

Up Next: The Huskies are slated to host William Smith College in a New England Hockey Conference matchup on Saturday, January 15 at 3pm.
