LEWISTON, Maine – A three-goal second quarter led by two goals in quick succession from Grace Hoehl jumped-started the no. 20 ranked Bates College Bobcats offense en route to a decisive 7-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Tuesday night at Bates' Campus Avenue Field.
In the 61
st meeting between the two school, Bates earned the win and now leads the series 42-15-4. The Huskies last defeated Bates on October 22, 2015 on penalty strokes 4-3.

How It Happened:
- USM sophomore Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) put the Huskies on the board first scoring her second goal of the season on an assist from freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) in the fourth minute.
- Bates wasted little time tying the score up in the fifth minute converting on its first penalty corner of the night. Anna Lindeis scored the equalizer off of assists from Riley Burns and Sarah Bussell and the game remained 1-1 through the rest of the first quarter.
- The Bobcats scored three goals in the second frame to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Emily Gianunzio scored the go-ahead goal in the 24th minute before Hoehl notched her first and second goals of the game in quick order scoring in the 28th and 29th minute.
- In the third, Gianunzio scored her second goal of the game for a solid 5-1 advantage in the 39th, while Clare Moloney-Kolenberg added a sixth, and Ella Blum closed out the scoring for a 7-1 final.
Inside The Stats:
- Bates held a 28-7 lead in shots and a 13-3 lead in shots on goal. The Bobcats also had a significant advantage on penalty corners earning 12 to USM's 1.
- The Huskies' Sage Drinkwater has nine points through two games with her assist on Carson's goal.
The Goalkeepers:
- Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made six saves in 60 minutes of action.
- Bates' starter Grace Biddie allowed one goal and made two saves in 45 minutes. She was replaced by Emma Volkers in the fourth quarter. Volkers did not register a save in 15 minutes.
