How It Happened:
- After a scoreless first period, both the Huskies and the Warriors scored in close proximity in the second quarter. Senior Samantha Ellis (New Vineyard, Maine/Mt. Blue) scored in the 18th minute collecting a deflection off of a save to give USM a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived, however, as sophomore Isabel Sanchez (Weston, Conn.) scored the equalizer in the 19th minute.
- Tied 1-1 through the half, ECSU too the lead in the 37th minute as Nolan scored the first of her two goals in the game. Nolan completed an assist from senior Bryce Makula (Guilford, Conn.) following a penalty corner.
- ECSU kept the Huskies off of the scoreboard and held the 2-1 lead until late in regulation. USM sophomore Brooke Carson (Bryant Pond, Maine/Oxford Hills) scored her third goal of the season in the 58th minute to force overtime. Carson redirected a centering pass from freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle).
- Eastern registered the lone shot of the first sudden-victory overtime period, a blast from Nolan, but the score remained 2-2 and headed into the second overtime.
- USM led the Warriors in chances with a 6-4 margin in shots in the second overtime, and nearly put the ball in the cage on efforts from Carson and Drinkwater, but junior goalkeeper Sarah Gallagher (South Windsor, Conn.) made several strong saves to keep the scored locked at two.
- Following an attempt by Carson that was turned back by Gallagher in the 76th minute, the Warriors broke down the field and earned a penalty stroke at 76:45 after a player was tripped up in the circle. With the game on the line, Nolan stepped into the spot and pushed the ball to the right of USM junior goalkeeper Juliana Kiklis (York, Maine) for the win.
