BANGOR, Maine – Five different players scored as the University of Southern Maine Huskies shut out the Husson University Eagles 5-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Senior
Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) had a goals and an assist, scoring at least one goal in each of her three games this season. Junior
Katie Lynch (Bellingham, Mass./Mt Saint Charles) and freshmen
Lakyn Hink (Porter, Maine/Sacopee Valley) and
Gabrielle Martin (Fort Kent, Maine) each recorded their first goal as a Husky, while junior
Emma Forgues (Gorham, Maine) notched her second goal of the season.
Improving to 3-0-0 on the season, USM has outscored its opponents 13-1 through three games. Playing in their second game this season, the Eagles suffer their first loss to stand at 1-1. Husson opened its season with a 15-3 win over Fisher.

How It Happened:
- Berthiaume broke through for the Huskies' first goal of the game in the 24th minute. Berthiaume ran onto a lifted ball from the back and took two touches in the box around the on-rushing keeper for the 1-0 lead.
- Hink opened her Husky account in the 39th minute to double the USM advantage and give her team a 2-0 lead headed into the halftime break.
- USM scored three goals in the second half sparked by Forgues' finish of an Alex Allain (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) in the 52nd minute. Allain collected the ball at the top of the 18, and slotted a through ball to her right onto Forgues' feet.
- In the 57th minute Martin was in the right place at the right time to collect a deflection in the box and guide the ball into the back of net for a 4-0 lead and her first collegiate marker.
- Lynch capped the scoring for the Huskies' crashing the goal on a corner kick and completing the service from Berthiaume in the 84th minute.
Inside The Stats:
- Berthiaume's goal in the 24th minute of today's game gives her four for the season and 28 overall in her career. She is currently tied for the USM women's soccer career goal scoring record with former Husky standout and Husky Hall of Fame member Ali Hathaway (1998-2000).
- Allain's assist on Forgue's goal marked the 11th of her career, which moves her into fifth all-time in Husky career record books. A midfielder for USM, Allain has 11 goals and 11 assists for 33 points in her career.
The Goalkeepers:
- Sophomore Bre Atwood (Franklin, Mass.) earned the start and made two saves in 72:19 of action. Rookie Hunter Stonebraker (Mont Vernon, NH/Soughegan) played the final 17:41 and made a save.
- Husson's Shie Smith made five saves and allowed four goals in 61:36. Hannah Kenney made three saves and allowed one goal in the final 28:24.
- Husky goalkeeper have a combined goals against average of 0.33 thus far in 2021. Atwood is 3-0-0 as the Huskies' starter.
