The Records:
Eastern Connecticut (3-3-1, 0-1-1 LEC)
Southern Maine (5-1-2, 0-1-1 LEC)
How It Happened:
- ECSU took a 1-0 in the 18th minute when senior Haley Montesanto (East Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Montesanto ran onto a ball played in-between the Huskies' defense from classmate Sierra DeCarli (Tolland, Conn.), and knocked it into the left side of the goal.
- Outshooting USM 4-2 in the opening half (3-0 on goal) the Warriors took the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
- USM pressured early to start the second half, as senior Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) put a pair of shots on target and earned back-to-back corner kicks for the Huskies. On her second service of the half, Berthiaume sent a dangerous ball into the mix, and Huntress was able to clean it up in front of the net for the equalizer.
- USM led USM 6-1 in shots on goal in the second half, and nearly had a go-ahead goal in the 73rd as sophomore Mia Sargent (Portland, Maine/Deering) sent a direct kick on frame only to be turned away on a diving effort from ECSU keeper senior Alexis Tyrell (Torrington, Conn.). Tyrell made a diving save to her left to keep the game at 1-1.
- Sent to overtime, USM's Berthiaume had a stellar chance at a game-winner in the 97th minute, but her shot from 22-yards out ricocheted off the cross bar.
- In the second overtime, both teams registered on shot each and sent both efforts high resulting in the draw.
