BOSTON – Sophomore
Mia Sargent (Portland, Maine/Deering) calmly tucked in a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to pull the University of Southern Maine Huskies even with the Wentworth Leopards in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Sweeney Field.
In just the third meeting between the two schools, it is the first positive result for the Huskies. USM is now 2-0-1 against Wentworth, dropping both of its previous contests versus the Leopards by a margin of 3-1 on September 26, 2018 and September 25, 2019.

How It Happened:
- Southern Maine found itself down 1-0 as Wentworth scored the first goal of the game against the run of play. Southern Maine dominated the stat sheet outshooting the Leopards 8-1, prior to the Wentworth goal in the 36th minute.
- Madison Wolf (Falmouth, Maine) played a dangerous ball into the box and found McKenzie Collins (Seymour, Conn.) for her third goal of the season.
- In the second half, USM continued to pressure the Leopard defense but could not break through for an equalizer. The Huskies held a 12-4 lead in shots in the second half, but Wentworth goalkeeper Juliana Heaton made five second half saves.
- USM finally broke through keeping the action in its offensive third, and earned a penalty kick after a handball in the box, setting up Sargent.
- Scoring the first goal of her intercollegiate career, Sargent struck a well-place ball into the right side of the goal for the equalizer.
- In overtime, USM again dominated the stat sheet with a 9-1 margin in shots (3-1 on goal).
Inside The Stats:
- USM finished the game with a 29-7 advantage in shots (12-6 on goal).
- Both teams combined for just four corner kicks in 110 minutes (3-1 USM).
- USM is 3-1-1 on the road this season and 2-0 at home.
- USM is outscoring its opponents 22-5, and 10 different players have now scored goals for the Huskies this season. Fourteen players have registered a point.
The Goalkeepers:
- Freshman Hunter Stonebraker (Mont Vernon, N.H.) earned her first career start. She played the first 45 minutes, making one save and allowing one goal. Sophomore Bre Atwood (Franklin, Mass) played the final 65 minutes. Atwood made four saves and did not allow a goal.
- Heaton made 11 saves for Wentworth to help earn the tie for the Leopards. She made three saves in the overtime periods.
