BIDDEFORD, Maine – Senior
Zekariya Shaib (Portland, Maine) scored off of an assist from junior
Kevin Voter (Sanford, Maine) in the 92nd minute to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 2-1 overtime win over the University of New England Nor'easters Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Southern Maine has now played in three overtime contests through its five games this season. The Huskies are 2-0-1 when playing in extra time. Playing the 55
th game in the series between USM and UNE, the Huskies now lead 34-16-5

How It Happened:
- UNE scored first taking a 1-0 lead late in the opening half off a goal from Matthew McLeod and an assist from Alex Woodworth. The Huskies had the first two real chances of the game early with on-frame attempts from junior Ronan Hume (Marshfield, Mass.) and Shaib, but both were turned away from UNE keeper Sean McCarthy.
- UNE remained ahead of USM until the 73rd minute when the Huskies equalized on a penalty. Junior Sean Brueninghaus was confident from the spot for his first goal of the season.
- After the Brueninghaus equalizer, USM had five more shots (one on goal) in the final moments of regulation but were unable to score in regulation setting up overtime.
- In overtime, Shaib broke through scoring his second goal of the season, and second game-winning goal, on a feed from Voter at 91:59. A back for the Huskies, the assist is Voter's first of his career.
Inside the Stats:
- The Huskies led UNE 13-6 in shots and 6-2 in shots on goal. USM also had a 9-2 lead in corner kicks.
The Goalkeepers:
- Senior Hayes Estrella (Kennebunk, Maine/Thornton Academy) made one save in the win. She is 3-1 on the season.
- UNE's McCarthy made four saves in the loss.
