NCAA Men's Track and Field Championship Preview

Drummey Looks to Continue Outstanding Freshman Campaign

GORHAM, Maine-- University of Southern Maine freshman pole vaulter Ben Drummey (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) will look to continue his record-setting year as he competes in the 2021 NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Greensboro, N.C. The 2021 Little East Conference pole vault champion and USTFCCCA All-Region honoree, Drummey holds the top eight outdoor pole vault marks in school history, breaking Ron Helderman's record on March 27, and breaking his own record multiple times since.

Drummey is seeded second in the pole vault with a mark of 5.20m, a school record set on May 20 at the Tufts National Qualifier Meet. During his breakout freshman season, Drummey has collected numerous LEC weekly honors and was named Rookie Field Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the season. Drummey is just the fourth student-athlete in program history to earn the honor, following in the footsteps of Orion Winkler, Anthony Stanton, and Helderman.

The only competitor with a higher seed than Drummey is UW-Stout's Noah Zastrow, who has a season best mark of 5.36m and placed 2nd in the 2019 outdoor championships. Drummey will aim to earn All-American honors for the first time in his young career and to bring home the program's first individual national championship since Jamie Ruginski in 2015.

How to Watch: Fans can tune into the NCAA D3 Track & Field Championships page for live results and a livestream throughout the meet. Drummey will compete in the pole vault, which is scheduled for 3:30pm ET on Thursday, May 27.
