Southern Maine Rolls Past Rhode Island College 20-3

Violette Reaches 100-Career Points

GORHAM, Maine -- Junior Rachel Shanks (Naples, Maine/Lake Region) and seniors Megan Violette (Portland, Maine/Deering) and Alex Farley (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) combined to score 18 goals as the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 20 en route to a 20-3 victory over visiting Rhode Island College in Little East Conference action Thursday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
The win lifts the Huskies record to 5-2 overall and 4-2 in Little East play with one game remaining in the regular season.  The visiting Anchorwomen lost their sixth straight game to slip to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
Shanks led all goal scorers with a career-high seven goals.  Violette found the net six times, and Farley contributed five goals and two assists for seven points.  Senior Mariah Vaillancourt (Lewiston, Maine/Edward Little) and rookie Cece Racine (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) split the goaltending chores for USM, combining for one save.
Sophomore Emily Marino (Cheshire, Conn.) and Alyssa Silvestre (Warwick, R.I./Toll Gate) and junior Olivia Carpenito (Wilmington, Mass.) scored goals for Rhode Island College.  Sophomore goalie Shannon O'Connell (Narragansett, R.I.) stopped nine shots.
The Huskies methodically pulled away in the first half, opening a 14-1 by the halftime intermission.  Shanks, Violette, and Farley each had four goals in the half.
Violette's fifth goal of the day, coming with 18:55 remaining, was her milestone 100th career point.  She becomes the 16th player in the history of the program to reach that plateau.  In her career, Violette has appeared in 58 games scoring 71 goals and passing out 30 assists for 101 points.
The Huskies dominated the stat sheet outshooting the Anchorwomen 35-7, winning the ground ball battle 17-5, and controlling the center circle corralling 17 of 24 draws.
Southern Maine will conclude the regular season hosting Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.  No spectators will be allowed.  Rhode Island College travels to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday.
