Saint Joseph’s College Downs Southern Maine 4-1

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) scored two goals as the Saint Joseph's College Monks picked up their first win of the season over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Monday night at Hannaford Field. On their way to the win, the Monks outshot the Huskies 12-5.

THE RECORDS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Just seven minutes into the game, sophomore Cailin Seavey (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) gave the Monks an early 1-0 lead. Seavey's goal was also the first recorded shot of the game.
  • After a scoreless second period, junior Meghan Hill (Brookline, N.H.) and Rutledge added back-to-back goals in the third period to expand the Monks' lead. Rutledge scored her second goal of the game in the 50th minute of play. 
  • With just 28 seconds remaining in the game, freshman Mary Keef (Westbrook, Maine/Westbrook) scored her first career goal to put the Huskies on the board. 
THE GOALKEEPERS:
  • USM sophomore Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine/York) made six saves for the Huskies in the loss.
  • Saint Joseph's College junior Isabella Anton (Mount Vernon, N.H.) made two saves. 
UP NEXT: 
The Huskies host Keene State on Sunday (1:00 pm). Spectators are not permitted at USM Athletic Contests but can follow USM Athletics online at southernmainehuskies.com. SJC hosts Colby on Friday (7:00 pm).
