GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey team scored three third-period goals to overcome a one-goal deficit and defeat the visiting Becker College Hawks 5-3 in non-conference action Sunday evening at the USM Ice Arena. The game was the season opener of the Huskies.
           Leading 2-1 heading into the final period, USM surrendered two goals in the opening five minutes to fall behind 3-2. Sophomore
Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) tied the game at 1:36, and junior
Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) gave the visiting Hawks the lead at 4:18.
           Rookie
Zoe Solomons (Saugus, Mass.) equalized for the Huskies at 7:48 redirecting a pass from sophomore
Jordan Colbert (Manomet, Mass.).
           Freshman
Georgie Snow (Yarmouthport, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game winner at 14:51 with a nifty move around a Becker defender before lifting a shot into the top of the net. Sophomore
Maddy Young (Westford, Vt.) added the icing on the win with an empty-net power-play goal with 15 seconds remaining.
           USM rookie goaltender
Haley McKim (Moncton, N.B.) earned her first collegiate win stopping 22 shots. Becker sophomore
Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) had 29 saves at the other end.
           Southern Maine is scheduled to play a home-and-home series next weekend against the University of New England.Â
