Shannon Colbert Provides Three Points in Women’s Ice Hockey Conference Win

GENEVA, NEW YORK – University of Southern Maine women's ice hockey graduate student Shannon Colbert (Manomet, Massachusetts) recorded three total points all of which came in the third period while freshman forward Madelyn McLeish (Dedham, Massachusetts) put home her first career goal as the Huskies racked up their first New England Hockey Conference victory of the season Friday night.

When and Where: Friday, November 5, 2021 – William Smith College – The Cooler

Score: Huskies 4, Herons 1

History: This was the first meeting between the two programs. The Huskies lead the series 1-0-0.

The Records: Southern Maine: 2-1-0, 1-0-0 NEHC; WSC: 1-2-0, 0-1-0

The Goaltenders: sophomore Haley McKim (Moncton, NB, Canada): 2-1-0, 33 saves, .971 save percentage; Amanda Aalto: 1-1-0, 39 saves, .907 save percentage.

Standout Huskies: Shannon Colbert: one goal, two assists, three points; senior forward Shannon Douglas (Telford, England): one goal, one blocked shot.

How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:

-Madelyn McLeish cracked the scoring column at the 3:02 mark taking two passes for her first career goal. A minute later, Mia LaPlante evened the margin at 1-1 dumping in an unassisted tally. The contest remained deadlocked until 22 seconds into the third period when graduate co-captain Rylie Binette (Milan, New Hampshire) fired the game winner. Douglas and Shannon Colbert added insurance tallies later on.

-Both teams were a combined 0-for-9 on the power play.

-Southern Maine won 54-of-78 face-offs in the battle.

-WSC blocked 15 shot attempts to the Huskies six.
