How It Happened:
- In a low-scoring game overall, both teams combined for just 16 first quarter points and were tied at 8-8 headed into the second quarter. USM scored the first five points of the game on a pair of layups from Harris and one of two free throws from sophomore Amy Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble). SJC scored the next eight and led 8-5 on a layup from Hurley before USM senior Katie Bagley (Hancock, Maine/Ellsworth) tied it with a three.
- Trailing USM 17-13 after a layup from Fleming, SJC outscored USM 10-2 over the final five minutes of the second quarter to lead 23-19 at the break. Back-to-back threes from Hailey Anderson and Hannah Talon ignited the run for the Monks.
- The Huskies started the third on a 7-2 run on a pair of short jumpers from Luckhard and Harris and a traditional three-point play from junior Megan King (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) to lead 26-25 with 9:00 left in the quarter, but SJC responded with a 9-0 run to jump ahead 34-26. Howe had six of the nine for the Monks, including a layup at the 4:41 mark for the 34-26 lead.
- Luckhardt made it 37-31 with 2:11 to play sinking a three for USM, but the Monks closed out the final 130 seconds on a 9-2 run to take a commanding 46-33 lead into the fourth.
- Facing a double-digit deficit, USM pulled to within two possessions, 48-42, with 4:47 to play following a 9-2 run to open the fourth capped by a hook shot in the paint from sophomore Ashlee Aceto (South Portland, Maine).
- SJC closed out the game on the line, however, making 12-of-14 down the stretch, for the 62-52 final.
