Series History:  Facing each other for the 71st time in series history, Colby is earning its 18th win over USM.  The Huskies lead the series 53-18.

Standout Huskies:  Senior Victoria Harris (Altus, Okla./Lewiston) 13 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocked shots; junior Megan King (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) 5 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal

Standout Mules:
Caroline Smith 20 points, 8 rebounds; Carly Christofori 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals; Carter McGloon 6 points, 5 rebounds, game-winning three-point field goal.

How It Happened:
  • In a low-scoring game points and field goals were at a premium.  Colby led the Huskies 13-5 (2:06) late in the first on a layup from Smith, but Husky sophomore Ashlee Aceto (South Portland Maine) canned a three in the closing minute to send the game to the second quarter with USM trailing 13-11.
  • Smith again gave Colby a two-possession lead late in the second hitting a three (3:28) to put the Mules up 22-17.  But the Huskies' King and Harris combined for a 5-0 mini-run to tie the game up at 22 before half.  King canned a three on USM's next possession following Smith's three and then Harris scored on a move in the paint for the run.
  • Out of the halftime break, Harris scored the first basket of the third to give USM its first lead 24-22, and the Huskies went on to outscore the Mules 11-7 in the quarter to lead 33-29.  Husky senior Michelle Rowe (Gorham, Maine) scored the final basket of the quarter on a layup on a dish from Harris.
  • In the foruth, an offensive rebound and a layup from senior Jackie Luckhardt (Londonderry, N.H.) gave USM its largest lead of the game 37-31 (7:28), but Colby would respond with seven unanswered points over the next five minutes to snag a 38-37 lead. Smith, who scored six of the Mules points in the pivotal run, hit two free throws for the one-point margin with 2:41 on the clock.
  • Harris regained the Huskies' lead on their next possession with a bucket in the paint 39-38 (2:08) before both teams went cold. Colby was 0-for-6 over the next two minutes, while USM was 0-for-2 with a turnover.  On Colby's final miss, the Mules retained possession on a dead ball offensive rebound, and Smith found McGloon for the three and the win with one second to play.  USM had a final look at the basket, but was unable to convert.

Inside the Stats:
  • Neither team shot well in the contest. USM was 16-for-67 from the field, while Colby shot 14-for-50.  USM had 17 extra possession thanks to a 13-8 edge in offensive rebounds.  USM also forced the Mules into 19 turnovers and scored 10 points off of those Colby miscues.
  • Harris' double-double is her second of the season and seventh of her career.  Harris' 14 rebounds matches her career-high. Harris has reached double-digits in scoring in the last three games consecutively.
