GORHAM, Maine – Senior Terion Moss (Portland, Maine) scored a game-high 48 points, including 28 in the second half, to lead the UMaine Farmington Beavers to a 91-73 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's basketball match up Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium.
Moss scored more than half of UMF's points, shooting 17-for-25 from the field, and 8-for-12 from three-point range. He was one of two Beavers in double-figures for the win.
Southern Maine had five players in double-digits scoring led by junior
Cody Hawes (Carmel, Maine/Hermon). Hawes scored a season-high 20 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field with three three-pointers. Sophomore
Simon Chadbourne (Westbrook, Maine) came off the bench to score 15 points on five threes.

How It Happened:
- UMF started scoring on nine of its first 14 possessions to lead by double-digits, 22-10 (12:56), in the first seven minutes of the game. However, Southern Maine bounced back outscoring the Beavers 24-12 over the next nine minutes to tie the game up at 34-34 with 4:04 in the half. Thomas scored six and Hawes added five in the run for USM.
- With the game knotted up at 34, both teams exchanged baskets and UMF led 43-39 with 29 seconds remaining on a running jumper from Moss, but Hawes hit a three of his own on solid ball rotation and an assist from sophomore Chance Dixon (Lake Worth, Fla.) to pull the Huskies to within a point 43-42 before time expired.
- Moss scored nine quick point, on three threes, as UMF opened the second half on an 11-3 run in the first two minutes of action to take a 54-45 lead. Led by six points from Thomas, the Huskies outscored UMF 13-6 over the next five and a half minutes and trailed by a single possession 60-58 following a three from Chadbourne; however, Beavers rattled off an 11-0 run to take control. Moss hit a pair of threes, while Kane capped the run with an offensive rebound and a layup to give UMF a 71-58 advantage with 9:06 to play.
- A Moss three with 6:59 to play gave UMF its largest lead of the game 78-61 (6:59), before USM used a 12-3 spurt to make it an eight-point game (81-73) with just over three to play. Hawes scored five of the Huskies' 10 in the run.
- With the lead whittled to eight, UMF scored four straight points on two free throws from Moss and a dunk from Kane to create separation, and then scored the final six points of the game for the 91-73 final.
Inside the Stats:
- Hawes has scored in double digits for the Huskies five of the Huskies' six games this season. He is averaging 13.8 points per game.
- Lombard's seven assists are a game and career-high.
- UMF's Griffin and Kane combined for 23 of the Beavers' 40 rebounds, helping UMF to a 40-30 edge in boards. The Beavers scored 13 second chance points on 11 offensive rebounds.
