How It Happened/Inside the Box Score:

-Both teams registered about the same shots on goal in the first period (UMB: 8, USM: 7), but the Huskies had probably the best scoring chance. With under 30 seconds to play, USM skated down the ice with a 3-on-1 chance, but the pass was poked away by the opposition. The Huskies regained possession and junior defender Jordan Colbert (Manomet, Massachusetts) rifled a shot into traffic that was blocked and ended the Husky threat.

-UMB had their best chance in the second period. Cailey Kozich carried the puck into the attacking zone during a breakaway chance and tried to go five-hole on McKim, but the Huskies netminder saved the puck with her blocker. On the ensuing Beacon possession, McKim made three saves in a row all on chances right outside the crease.

-Southern Maine came into the duel 1-for-13 (7.7%) on the powerplay this season and struck on their first advantage chance. Following a face-off that UMB won, they tried to dump the puck out along the boards, but it was saved by Nelson's stick and gobbled up by junior forward Maddy Young (Westford, Vermont). Young flung a pass cross-ice to Snow who fired a shot from the slot and trickled just past the goalie for the only score of the game.

-UMass-Boston held the edge in face-offs winning 32-of-59 opportunities. They also tallied more blocked shots (13-to-5) than the Huskies.

-The contest was a somewhat clean affair as only three penalties were called including none in the third period.
