Adelle Surette (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) had a pair of goals and junior goalkeeper
Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made 11 saves to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-1 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers in a Little East Conference field hockey game Wednesday evening at Hannaford Field.
Meeting for the 56
th time in series history, USM has won back-to-back contests over Plymouth State taking the 2019 game by the score of 4-0. PSU leads the series 35-18-3. The win is the third straight for USM in Little East Conference action as the Huskies finish the 2021 LEC regular season at 9-3. USM will await the seeding of the upcoming Little East Conference championship tournament which begins on November 2.

How It Happened:
- USM took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when freshman Sage Drinkwater (Steep Falls, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Drinkwater redirected in a centering pass from sophomore Mary Keef (Westbrook, Maine)
- Surrette doubled the Huskies advantage in the 13th minute hitting a low driven ball from the top of the circle, following another assist from Keef.
- USM went into the halftime break up 3-0 as Surrette cleaned up a rebounded shot in the circle to score her third goal of the season in the 25th minute.
- PSU pulled a goal back early in the second half. Sophomore Sydney Spenard (Manchester, N.H.) cleaned up a loose ball in the circle and connected for her fourth goal of the season in the 34th minute.
Inside The Stats:
- In a fast-paced game both teams combined for 41 shots. USM led 23-18 and 18-13 in shots on goal. USM outshot the Panthers 7-1 in the first quarter but then were outshot 14-4 in the second quarter.
- USM had a significant lead in penalty corners 19-9, and scored two of its goals following penalty corners.
- Freshman Hailee Lindelof (Swanville, Maine/Belfast) kept PSU off the board recording a defensive save in the 17th minute.
The Goalkeepers:
- Husky junior Julianna Kiklis (York, Maine) made 11 saves in the win, improving her record to 11-7. Her 11 saves are her third highest total of her career.
- Plymouth State sophomore Kayla Antonucci (Windham, Maine) was outstanding in goal for the Panthers making 15 saves.
Up Next:
Southern Maine returns to action on Thursday (7:00 pm) and travels to Endicott College. Plymouth State hosts Western Connecticut on Saturday (1:00 pm) in an LEC match.
